Whittington Countryside and Craft Fair is an annual traditional country fair that attracts thousands of people, provides an excellent family day out and raises money for local voluntary groups and charities. The fair is a celebration of rural heritage, life and crafts. All money raised is ploughed back (forgive the pun!) into the local community mainly through grants to local voluntary organisations and services, in 2009 the fair raised around £9500.
However, it is not just about raising money. It is about providing an interesting and enjoyable family day out, bringing the community together through one large project, allowing village groups
to raise their own monies on the day and also raising the profile of work done by the Parish Council.
For six years the Countryside Fair has featured heavy horses, falconry, sheep dog demonstrations, ferret racing, dog show and dog obedience, gun dog training, agricultural displays, classic cars, tug of war, fly tying, stick making, steam engine rides, children's fairground attractions, mechanical rodeo bull, animal corner, pony rides, farriery, chain saw sculpture, licensed bar, dozens of trade and craft stalls in a grand marqee and outside.
